1.3401 X120mn12 Steel Plate
1.3401 / X120Mn12 is a high-performance manganese steel with balanced chemical composition, superior toughness, and exceptional wear resistance. Its ability to work-harden under impact makes it a preferred material for crusher liners, grinding mills, bucket liners, and other high-abrasion components.
- Description
1.3401, also known as X120Mn12, is a high manganese austenitic steel widely used for wear-resistant applications. Its high manganese and carbon content stabilize the austenitic structure, giving the steel excellent toughness, strong work-hardening ability, and outstanding abrasion resistance.
This grade is ideal for components subjected to heavy impact and severe wear, such as crusher liners, grinding mills, and earth-moving machinery.
Chemical Composition
The typical chemical composition of 1.3401 / X120Mn12 ensures a balance between hardness, toughness, and wear resistance:
| Element | Typical Range (wt%) | Function |
|---|---|---|
| Carbon (C) | 1.10 – 1.40 | Enhances hardness and surface work hardening |
| Manganese (Mn) | 11.0 – 14.0 | Austenite stabilization, toughness, and wear resistance |
| Silicon (Si) | ≤ 1.0 | Deoxidation, improves strength |
| Phosphorus (P) | ≤ 0.07 | Impurity control |
| Sulfur (S) | ≤ 0.03 | Impurity control |
| Chromium (Cr) | ≤ 2.0 | Increases hardness and corrosion resistance |
| Nickel (Ni) | ≤ 1.0 | Enhances toughness |
| Iron (Fe) | Balance | Base metal |
Mechanical Properties
| Property | Typical Value |
|---|---|
| Yield Strength | 350 – 450 MPa |
| Tensile Strength | 750 – 1100 MPa |
| Elongation | ≥ 35% |
| Hardness (solution treated) | 180 – 220 HB |
| Hardness (work hardened) | Up to 500 HB |
Key Features:
-
Strong work-hardening effect under repeated impact
-
High impact toughness and ductility
-
Non-magnetic in solution-treated condition
Wear Resistance
The wear resistance of 1.3401 / X120Mn12 is primarily due to its work-hardening behavior:
-
Surface Hardening Under Impact
-
The austenitic surface deforms under repeated stress, transforming partially to martensite.
-
This creates a hard layer on the surface while keeping the core tough.
-
-
High Abrasion Resistance
-
Work-hardened surface hardness can reach up to 500 HB, allowing long service life in heavy wear applications.
-
-
Durability in Severe Conditions
-
Excellent resistance to high-impact, heavy-load, and abrasive environments, making it ideal for mining, construction, and material handling industries.
