Wear plates manufactured by welding one or multiple wear resistant layers on a medium or low carbon steel base plate.
The overlay alloy has a high amount of chromium carbide hard particles which makes the plate have good wear and impact resistance.
The mild steel base of the chromium carbide overlay plates is welded using an open or submerged arc welding process. In the arc welding process, the chromium carbide overlay is welded as a highly abrasive resistant welded overlay is cracks deposited on the module. The process creates enough heat by using electricity to melt the metal and subsequently cool it, resulting in a strong weld. In the open arc process, an electric arc takes place in the air without the necessity of additional shield gas. In the submerged arc welding process, the chromium carbide overlay is welded by the formation of an electric arc between a continuous electrode feed and the workpiece.
