Xar500 Steel

XAR500 steel is a high-performance abrasion resistant material with a hardness level of approximately 470–530 HBW. It is engineered for extreme wear conditions where maximum surface durability is required.

With a carefully balanced alloy composition and quenched and tempered structure, XAR500 provides excellent resistance to abrasion in mining, cement, steel, and bulk handling industries.

However, due to its high hardness, it requires proper fabrication techniques and is best used in applications where wear resistance is more critical than impact toughness.

Category:

XAR500 steel is a high-hardness, quenched and tempered wear-resistant steel designed for extreme abrasion conditions. It belongs to the premium-grade abrasion resistant steel family and is widely used in mining, quarrying, cement production, steel plants, and heavy-duty material handling systems.

Compared with standard AR steels, XAR500 provides higher hardness, improved wear resistance, and longer service life in severe operating environments.

Chemical Composition of XAR500 Steel

XAR500 is an alloyed carbon steel with carefully controlled elements to achieve high hardness and toughness balance.

Typical alloying elements include:

Element Function
Carbon (C) Increases hardness and strength
Manganese (Mn) Improves toughness and wear resistance
Chromium (Cr) Enhances abrasion and oxidation resistance
Nickel (Ni) Improves impact toughness
Molybdenum (Mo) Stabilizes hardness and strength

These elements work together to create a strong, wear-resistant microstructure after heat treatment.

Main Mechanical Properties of XAR500 Steel

Property Performance
Hardness ~470–530 HBW
Wear Resistance Very High
Impact Resistance Medium
Toughness Balanced
Weldability Moderate (requires controlled process)
Formability Limited due to high hardness

XAR500 is designed for maximum abrasion resistance in severe wear environments.

Why XAR500 Has Excellent Wear Resistance

1. High Surface Hardness

The key performance feature of XAR500 is its very high hardness level:

  • Strong resistance to cutting and gouging
  • Reduced material loss under friction
  • Extended service life in abrasive environments

2. Quenched and Tempered Microstructure

XAR500 is heat treated to form a fine martensitic structure:

  • Uniform hardness distribution
  • Improved resistance to surface deformation
  • Better structural stability under load

3. Alloy Optimization

Elements like chromium and molybdenum:

  • Improve wear resistance stability
  • Increase hardness retention
  • Enhance performance under heavy load conditions
