Understanding Wear-Resistant Steel Plates: HARDOX400 vs. NM400

Overview of HARDOX Wear-Resistant Steel Plate

HARDOX is a wear-resistant steel plate produced by SSAB OXELOSUND, a key division of the SSAB Swedish Steel Group. As the world’s largest manufacturer of wear-resistant steel plates, SSAB supplies products to over 100 countries. In 1999, the company established a representative office in Beijing, China, to serve industries such as cement and mining. The HARDOX series is widely recognized for its durability and performance.

HARDOX400 and NM400: Naming and Hardness

The naming conventions of HARDOX400 and HARDOX500 are similar to domestic NM400 and NM500 steel plates. The numbers (400–500) indicate the Brinell hardness of the steel. In contrast, “NM” in NM400 and NM500 stands for “wear resistance.”

Comparison of Mechanical Properties

HARDOX400 vs. NM400

  • HARDOX400 offers superior hardness and toughness.
  • NM400 lacks yield strength and impact resistance in comparison.

HARDOX500 vs. NM500

  • HARDOX500 provides better wear resistance under extreme conditions.
  • NM500 has lower overall durability.

Why Choose HARDOX?

Compared to NM series plates, HARDOX400 and HARDOX500 offer enhanced wear resistance, making them ideal for demanding applications. Their superior toughness ensures longer service life and better performance in heavy industries.
