Wear Resistance Mechanism of Mn13 Steel Plate

Wear Resistance Mechanism of Mn13 Steel Plate

Mn13 steel plate is known for its exceptional wear resistance. Its wear mechanism can be explained by several theories, which include the following:

1. Deformation-Induced Martensite Theory

High manganese steel may undergo martensitic transformation when subjected to surface decarburization or high stress. This transformation enhances the steel’s hardness and wear resistance.

2. Twin Theory

The primary deformation mechanism of high manganese steel occurs through twinning. Work hardening is attributed to the formation of twin boundaries, which hinder dislocation movement within the austenite matrix.

3. Stacking Fault Theory

Even under extreme deformation at -196°C, high manganese steel maintains its FCC austenite structure. The deformation trace is characterized by stacking faults, which are believed to contribute to the material’s work hardening.

4. Dynamic Strain Aging Theory

Work hardening in high manganese steel is primarily caused by dynamic strain aging, which results in strengthening as the material deforms.

5. Comprehensive Effect Theory

The work hardening of high manganese steel is the result of a combination of the following factors:

  • High dislocation density
  • Dynamic strain aging
  • Deformation-induced twinning
  • Martensitic transformation

Depending on the stress and strain conditions, one or more of these mechanisms may dominate.

Mn13 Steel Plate: Properties and Applications

Mn13 steel is known for its excellent plastic toughness and ease of processing. Upon surface impact, the hardness increases rapidly due to structural changes, making it highly wear-resistant. As the surface gradually wears, internal structural changes ensure continued wear resistance.

Mn13 steel is available in thicknesses ranging from 4-25mm, with options for custom orders. We also supply a variety of other steel products, including high-strength steel plates, engineering machinery steel, automobile beam steel, weathering steel, acid-resistant steel, container plates, and more. With a 10,000-ton inventory, we ensure regular delivery and provide a full range of raw material supply, processing, and logistics services.
